About our K9 Hero Artist
Loreen Gibbs has been painting animal portraiture since 1997 while living in Bucks County Pennsylvania, and quickly became known as “The Artist who captures pets' spirits in her work”.
In early 2013, while working on the painting of MWD Gabe K153 SSD as a memorial gift to Gabe's handler SSgt. Charles Shuck, Loreen made the decision to start The K9 Hero Portrait Project after learning about several K9’s who were either gravely injured or killed in just one week. Loreen left her job of 10 years with a successful financial firm to dedicate her life to this project. Within 24 hours of announcing this new program nominations began pouring in from all over the country.
Over 90 four-legged hero tribute paintings, (and one winged one!), have been completed since the project's inception with paintings all over the world, including Germany, Italy, France (requested by the French Embassy), and Denmark (Two Royal Danish Air Force K9s).
Since each painting in The K9 Hero Portrait Project needs to be fully sponsored before being completed, Loreen also spends much of her time fund raising or doing commissioned paintings for the general public.
When program paintings are ready to be presented, Loreen will travel thousands of miles to "bring back the K9 hero" to their partners.
