US Army MWD Ssd Ryky, L738, female Belgian Malinois, Received bronze star and k9 war on terror medal , one of first two to receive this. Deployments to Irag, Aniston and numerous secret service vip missions, stationed out of fort Myer, va. First handler was together from 2007-2012. MWD Paty N350
MWD Paty N350 is a retired explosives detection dog who served with Sgt. Adam Murphy in Afghanistan. While serving our country Paty received the Bronze Star. Paty is now happily retired and reunited with her handler, Sgt. Murphy after being flown home by the Military Working Dogs Adoption Program in January of this year. Another great K9 Hero that has worked hard for our country!
IDD MWD"Jig" M834 was retired in Feb of 2013 due to a diagnosis of oral melanoma. His adoptive family flew to Lackland AFB in March to adopt this beautiful boy. Jigis a black lab who served his 7 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Sgt. Once he received his diagnosis, Lackland performed surgery to remove the oral mass and kept him at Lackland as a demo dog to help sell the Marines IDD ( improvised detection) program. From his new family: "Jig continues his chemo therapy to this day, every 6 months and has shown to be currently in remission. He must be evaluated every 3 months with blood work and chest X-rays to assure that the cancer has not spread to his lungs or anywhere else. Given what this boy has gone through, he is the most gentle furry spirit I have had the honor of sharing my home with." Jig is an excellent reminder that not only do the two-legged soldiers have a tough time with illnesses after retiring, the four-legged do also. In these cases, potential adoptive families are difficult to find due to the high expense of treatment, especially in Jig's case for his chemo. Jig luckily found a wonderful and caring home that is more than willing to cover the expenses of this war Hero. |
PORTRAIT IN PROGRESS! MWD Deni was whelped Feb 2000 and was received at Lackland AFB,TX on 04 Jan 2002 and was enrolled in the explosive section course. He was received on board Naval Air station Fallon in May of 2002. Here Deniperformed thousands of hours of detection for explosives and other contraband. keeping the everyday visitors, and one time visitors safe from terrorist activity. Deni participated in many high value asset visitors to include Secretary of Defense, the CNO, President and Vice President of the United States.Sadly, Deni's watch ended in January 2014.

Here's another success story from moments away frome euthanasia to becoming a PTSD service dog. Copper and her family were out of time, but a veteran with PTSD and a friend saved the entire group. Shortly after, Copper was showing signs and acting on her new adoptive owner's PTSD episodes. For the next few months, Copper was trained for PTSD and had an even larger future ahead of her. On December 14th, one of our nation's most tragic events took place. Immediately after, Copper was asked to join the Newtown residents and the Sandy Hook Elementary school to help children cope with being back in the classrooms. Copper helped over 100 children each day, and as the days followed, those same children would revisit and feel more comfortable being back. The days were grueling, 12-14 hours of non-stop activity and Copper took it all with a professional attitude, knowing her duty. After leaving Sandy Hook, Copper immediately switched back to PTSD service dog and helps her mother make it through each day.
