Joker
Joker is a perfect example of how a PTSD Service Dog saves the life of it's Veteran handler every day. This guy, who looks a lot like Petey from The Little Rascals, is on constant watch for his handler - watching his six in public, pulls his handler away when he senses stress is arising and insists on getting pet when his handler has already felt a trigger. As many Veterans realize, these highly trained PTSD Service Dogs for Veterans are vital in helping the handlers cope with day to day living that would seem simple to the rest of us who have not experienced the traumatic events of war.
When Joker's handler originally contacted The K9 Hero Portrait Project regarding a portrait of him, there was a little concern that Joker "would not qualify" for the project. I quickly eased those worries and explained that Joker's training and what he and other certified PTSD Service Dogs do for Veterans is incredible, and for that, he is a K9 Hero.
Joker has several items in the Etsy store offered for sale. Please browse the store and see items for other K9 (and equine!), heroes we have. All proceeds help cover the costs of future portraits and fundraising endeavors The K9 Hero Portrait does for soldiers, handlers, and the adoptive families of K9 Heroes. https://www.etsy.com/shop/K9HeroPortraitProjec
